Turmeric Jamu

Super easy Orange Turmeric Jamu Juice coming at ya!



It's allergy season and what's better than a delicious beverage to cool you off while also helping to fight your allergies!


Turmeric is a root vegetable that is often used as a spice as a result of it's powerful taste. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric an has been shown to have an inhibitory effect on histamine release from mast cells. This leads to less histamine production in the body and relief from some of those difficult allergy symptoms- sneezing, runny nose, itchy red eyes. Vitamin C has also been shown to have anti-histamine properties. Oranges are full of vitamin C. They also have polyphenols (which are important for a healthy gut and immune system).


Orange Turmeric Jamu Juice


Ingredients

2 oranges peeled

2 oz ginger

4 oz turmeric

1-2 tbsp local honey or sweeter of choice such as coconut nectar or maple syrup

5 cups of filtered water


Directions

  1. Peel turmeric and ginger with potato peeler

  2. Add oranges, turmeric, and ginger to blended with 5 cups of filtered water

  3. Once blended thoroughly, get a large bowl. Pour mixture into strainer letting liquid drain into mixing bowl. Once full mixture has been strained pour juice back into blender.

  4. Add 1-2 tbsp honey to juice and blend.

  5. Enjoy with ice!

Notes:

*I Recommend freezing turmeric and ginger prior to use- this makes it much easier to peel

*For an extra boost of flavor and minerals you can add coconut water instead of just filtered water
